Week 4, Register your blog and track your progress to journey into Learning 2.0 together

Maryland Libraries Learning 2.0, what is it? It is, to me, a credit earning assignment. Hopefully, on the way into Learning 2.0, I will find something interesting to draw me into it. I am tired of "I" centered blog but I have not come up a good third person presentation system on this blog, yet. I believe this assignment does have much learning of technology. It is learning how to express and present our learning process. It requires an artistic and literary talents which I don't have.

Week 8, Learn about RSS feeds and setup your own Bloglines newsreader account.

I have registered my blog in 2009 to MCPL Staff Development and posted several blogs. When I REALIZED THAT I HAVE TO REGISTER TO SEVRAL SERVICES to complete this assignment, I was not very happy and stopped. I am one of those who are paranoid about putting my personal information on the Internet, good or bad. RSS clatters my email accounts more than I want to spend to keep up on major news. Is this a bad artitude as a public library librarian? I know many librarians have been using these functions to enhance their profession.

Bloglines is very much of a disappointment. I felt this site started with big funfair, but once there were many similar resources/alternatives available on the Internet, its popularity decreased. Without those feeds to read, we, librarians, sit in front of a PC for several hours a day.

Week 6, Have some Flickr fun and discover some Flickr mashups & 3rd party sites

Hey Hatchling, are you ready to fly?

I am peeking out at an unknown world of IT. I t seems there is no end to explore. I am afraid that If I engage in an activity of IT, I will be sucked in an endless exploration, can't stop. My eyes all red, watching a computer screen hours at a time in serch of WHAT I can explore in IT. I am uncertain of everything but I better fly out from my confortable nest and join others who feel at home out there. Anyhow, this is a training of Flickr.

Week 2, Discover few pointers from Lifelong Learners and learn how to nurture your own learning process.

What I learned so far:
I learned more about what the Electronic Social Networking Tools are. Most practical tools are for everyone, not for IT specialists. This course, 23 Things, is not simply learning these tools. I realized that this course encourages colleagues to help each other, mentor each other, more than normal work/office environment, working as a tool of Team Building.
I have not progressed to next step, Yet. ; (

Week 5, Explore Flickr and learn about this popular image posting site.

Centimental Journey to Nature Mono Lake, Lake Tahoe
This blog should be for the Week 5: Play week. Does anyone know how to move around the order of blogs, instead of deleting already published one, or insert a new blog between the already published blogs? This problem occurs because this blog is not a true live blog, it is an assignment/training. I started playing around with the tools that appealed to me.

Week 7, Create a blog post about anything technology related that interest you this week.

Human are social animals. We socialized mostly face to face, telephone, etc. Does bloging expand our social circle? There is no geographic or language limit on the Internet. I understand why the majority of organizations adding those social networking tools to market and disseminate their product. It is a trend of society. I don't know if any of the marketing companies and the research organizations have done a scientific research on the effectiveness of those tools. I don't know how much more effective those tools are than a well developed webpage presence on the Internet with the subscription tools.

They are very useful and fun tools to disseminate personal opinion. But, if it's used by the officials to systematically disseminate their information and opinion to control the general public, it has chilling effect to the society. We, librarians, need to know how to use them and their function in our society. I believe, I am doing the 23 THINGS because it is my assignment. I looked at our official and other blogs. I have seen very few enlighten or intriguing one. Before I started this 23 things assignment, personally, I placed very low value and respect on them. I have heard lots of bad, less than honorable way of using them. Now, at least I can express my thought, publish my journal, here. Am I cluttering the Internet?Human are social animals. Week 3, Set up your own blog & add your first post.

Age and Learing:
Who am I? Am I, a senior citizen, too old to learn a new trick? "Successful Lifelong Learners Believe" says No. I just go on to try these electronic social networking tools, BLOG, to communicate my (thought)journal, etc.
